About Your Massage Therapist.
Dana Hood, L.M.T.
Licensed & Clinical Massage Therapist
I am a licensed and Soma Institute certified Clinical Massage Therapist that specializes in Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Facial Sinus Drainage, Myofascial Release, Cupping, Hydrotherapy and Lymphatic Drainage. I have been Illinois State licensed and nationally certified since 2005. My work focuses on chronic pain management and stress relief, with specialties in neck and shoulder pain, headaches, low back pain and hip discomfort. I believe massage is an essential piece in the human health regime and an incredible tool to help attain health goals.
Finding my passion for clinical massage has been an exciting ride. In 2003, I had the opportunity to create one of the first Kids Fitness facilities at The South Barrington Tennis Club. We brought in a variety of trainers and therapists to the program, including a clinical massage therapist to work with the Barrington High School Baseball Team. I was intrigued how the therapist could achieve real results through massage techniques. I immediately applied to The Soma Institute of Chicago, changing my life for the better.
The Soma Institute are pioneers in the clinical massage therapy field and have maintained a standard of excellence through continued focus on clinical evaluation and clinical practice. Their program provided in-depth knowledge for real world experiences, teaching me the widest possible array of massage therapy methods. Leading up to graduation, I knew my calling was in healthcare, and sought a reputable hospital to continue working on my passion.
In August 2005, I completed my internship at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago on the Oncology Unit. I received my Illinois Massage Therapy License and immediately joined Northwest Community Hospital’s Wellness Center. For the next 14 years, I was fortunate enough to help improve the lives of clients suffering from a variety of ailments and at all ages. My department worked in tandem with Physical Therapists, Oncology, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Units, as well as Women’s Health and Mental Health Centers. In my own practice, I am now able to offer those same benefits in a more personal environment.
My primary goal is simple: you tell me what hurts, and let’s work to fix it.
